Toyota yaris failed mot on emissions

my wifes yaris failed its mot on co emissions test today any idea of cost to fix
the orange engine management light light has been on for a few weeks have tried clearing the fault code and light goes off for 10-20 miles then lights up again
does that mean co emissins are ok when light is off

The cost of fixing it will be the cost of fixing whatever puts the warning light back on. It comes on for a reason, not just because it feels like it. And no, it doesn't mean the emissions are OK when its off. In fact by continuing to run with it on, you could do damage to the catalytic convertor which would then add another couple of hundred quid onto the repair bill.

Maybe wiring/connection, but probably needs a lambda sensor.
