Deduction from my online account

I RECENTLY PURCHASED VOUCHERS FOR RED LETTER DAYS VIA EBAY 27TH JUNE . BEING CAUTIOUS I FIRSTLY CHECEKD WITH RLD TO ENSURE THE VOUCHERS £400 WERE VALID AND ACCEPTABLE AND CONFIRM THIS WAS SO BEFORE PAYING THE SELLER. MY ACCOUNT WAS CREDITED WITH THE VALUE OF THE VOUCHERS. ON 28TH Aug I VISITED MY ACCOUNT AND FOUND MY BALANCE WAS MUCH LOWER THAN EXPECTED AND WAS ADVISED BY ACCOUNTS IN RLD THAT THEY DEDUCTED THE VALUE OF VOUCHERS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL HOLDER HAD NOT PAID THEM SO THEY WERE FRAUDELANT. I TRIED TO CONTACT SELLER BUT THE COMPANY HAS LEFT EBAY. TODAY I CONTACTED RLD AGAIN TO COMPLAIN WHY THEY FAILED TO INFORM ME IMMEDIATELY AND ALSO FELT THEY HAD NO RIGHT TO MAKE THE DEDUCTIONS WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME. THEY CLAIM THEY DO BUT CANNOT POINT OUT ANY CLAUSE IN THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS ON THEIR RIGHT TO DO SO. ALSO RLD CHANGED THEIR STORY TO SAY THEY JUST DEDUCTED IT YESTERDAY 2ND SEPT. CAN ANYONE HELP ME AND ADVISE MY BEST COURSE OF ACTION AS ITS A LOT OF MONEY FOR ME TO LOOSE. i APPRECIATE BUYING ON EBAY IS RISKY BUT I DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO VERIFY THAT THE VOUCHERS WERE VALID BEFORE PAYING FOR THEM. i AM TOLD TODAY THAT RLD THEMSELVES USE EBAY TO SELL THEIR VOUCHERS. PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN

    Once more, in English:

I recently purchased vouchers for Red Letter Days via ebay on 27th June. Being cautious I first checked with RLD to ensure that the £400 vouchers were valid and acceptable and before paying the seller. My account was credited with the value of the vouchers.

On 28th Aug I visited my account and found my balance was much lower than expected and was advised by accounts in RLD that they deducted the value of vouchers because the original holder had not paid for them so they were therefore considered fraudulent. I tried to contact seller but the company has left ebay.

Today I contacted RLD again to complain about their failure to inform me immediately and also stated that I felt they had no right to make the deductions without notifying me. They claim that they do but cannot point out any clause in the terms and conditions on their right to do so. RLD also changed their story to say they just deducted it yesterday (2nd Sept).

Can anyone help me and advise my best course of action, as it’s a lot of money for me to lose. I appreciate that buying on ebay is risky but I did everything possible to verify that the vouchers were valid before paying for them. I was told today that RLD themselves use ebay to sell their vouchers. Please help me if you can.

Jules, What answer are you looking for here?

I'm sorry to say that as you realise, you've been scammed. But why should Red Letter Days be financially liable for that? If you walked in to your bank and tried to deposit £100 but the notes were fake, the bank would not credit your account and the notes would be retained.

How did you pay for the vouchers? If it was by PayPal, then you should be able to raise a query and have the money refunded.

Seriously, explain how you think writing like that is in any way useful for someone trying to respond to you.

You said you bought from a seller off ebay and RLD have deducted the value of the vouchers from YOUR account?

How did they get your bank details?

  • Deducted it from her RLD account.
