Need some advice. My husband was "conned" by a company called sky/satlite last year, they called and mislead him into thinking they were part of sky and offered insurance cover for our sky box. My husband (thinking it was sky) took the insurance at cost of £60 - when he told me what he'd done I realised it wasn't sky and called them to cancel the insurance, they did refund our money back. I've now just checked my cc statement online and find they have taken £80 for a company called satlite and a pending transaction for £971 for company called skylite (they are both the same company with different names!!!!) I have phoned the cc company (MBNA) and they basically say there is nothing they can do about it, they can't even cancel the pending transaction as its been authorised - they said i have to take it up with the company. I have spoken to sky/satlite and the guy i spoke to said they were renewing my contract and that the £971 was an error - got into heated debate that we didn't have a contract to renew as it was cancelled last year etc etc etc. ANyway he did say he will put it through to have all money refunded on Monday but it could take 3-4 working days for it to show up, not sure whether i hold up much hope of getting it back.
I'm just wondering if they don't refund the money is there anyway I can claim this money back ie are the cc company liable in anyway? Can just about live with losing £80 but not £971
Please help.

Yeah i did thanks. Nobody on there seems to have such a big transaction as mine - £971 (and £80)!!! I'm really more just after advice as to whether section 75 applies in this case if those shower of crooks do not refund my money.Massive thanks to all who contribute on the MSE forums, especially on grabbit and competition boards0 -
Perhaps not Section 75, as you said, but there may be something else, like breach of contract or mis-selling. The best way to do that is to write the company and request a copy of the recording where you agreed to it.0

Thanks for your reply. I've drafted letters to skylite asking for immediate refund and my details removed from their system, sending copy to mbna also saying i authorise no further payments etc but unsure if this will do any good.MothballsWallet wrote: »Perhaps not Section 75, as you said, but there may be something else, like breach of contract or mis-selling. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that they will refund the money as they said they will. Its constantly praying on my mind and i'm just looking for some reassurance that thery'll be something I can do if not.

I think reporting it to the police would be a good first step although the previous government in its infinite wisdom removed the onus of investigation from the police to the banks so the police wont actually do anything. They "should" however give you a crime number you can then report it the your card fraud dept., You can actually do that without the police crime number but it might make them take you a little more seriously."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
