  • My advice would be to avoid them, there are plenty of others to choose from:

for the same price I'd go for the equilvalent Dell dimension 5150 (D09515d)

upping the memory to 2 gig and dropping the service package to 90 day collect and return the total price is £643 delivered

If they go under again, you'll still be liable for the full price but will be left with no support or warranty.

Thanks every one for the quick reply and really good advice.
I did visit the dell web side. It's so confusing for a computer illiterate like me.which is better?AMD Athlon 64 X2 or intel plentium Processr?(or does it matter?) so much to choose.quite good deals too.As I said I have paid TIME COMPUTERS £40 on card and was going to pay rest on 12 months interest free credit,I have to post the paperwork.I guess now will have to kiss good bye to £40.
My main purpose is surf the net ,burn few dvds, and the rEAL REASON IS my son wants to play pc games( Present one keeps freezing every time he loads the game in) AND I have £700 BUDGET
  • You could always ask for help here in fixing (and maybe upgrading) your existing PC instead of buying a new one.

What is the game your son is trying to play? Can you be more specific about the problem?

A DVD burner can be added pretty cheaply. Is the PC inadequate in any other way?

tHANKS ENGLISH MAN,believe me or not the old one happens to be TIME COMPUTERS(bought in 1997 I think- Paid £800 then for this very basic pc ).The hard disk is only 18 Gb and full .may be thats why its slow and freezes often.I think its not up to these days standards.Beside that THE TEENAGER probably would like one pc in his own room. Thanks any way.

If your son wants to play pc games then I'd advise you to check the back of the games to see what the required graphics card, ram and processor is before you buy a new computer. If you are finding a game slow it is generally down to you not having a powerful enough graphics card, ram or processor.

Looking at the dell site. I would say that you should be ok with either of the Dell Dimension 5150's on offer. They should both come under £700. You just need to select a dedictated graphics card as opposed to onboard.
Looking at the dimension which starts at £449 If you select the 256mb graphics card (this should be much more than most games require) at £58 and change the service to 1yr collect & return the total price should be about £507. You might also want to look at selecting the reinstallation operating system cd option which adds another £8.

ETA - You can buy the dell's on finance, paying each month but I don't think that it is interest free.

If you are considering Dell, use this site to find the best deal:

    http://www.wizmarkcomputers.co.uk/index.html

If you are going to order, note the Dell e-value code and go to the Dell website via quidco to get 4.5% cash back (would cover part of your lost £40!).
