I have a website that is hosted
Naturally when i alter it through my ftp i see lots of files and folders in there that make up the website
My question is could i put a folder in there and place some data into it and send a person a link to that folder?
Could i password protect it and what details would i need to send the 3rd party
I recall many years ago i used to do some printing work for a guy. he had a website and simply used to upload the files for printing into a folder on his website
Not got a clue how to do it and whilst allowing the 3rd party access to only that 1 folder so they cannot mess with my site

Don't need to give them FTP access at all. Create a folder called (for example) "public". Upload the files into there.
Now, say you want to send someone a Word document called "Document.doc". Upload it into the "Public" folder and send the following link:-
http://www.mywebsitename.com/public/Document.doc
Same thing for anything you upload. If you are sending them many files, zip them and put the zip file in the webspace and put the full filename in the link (including the .zip bit).0 -

You can password protect a folder on your website with a .htaccess file.mercman1969 wrote: »I recall many years ago i used to do some printing work for a guy. he had a website and simply used to upload the files for printing into a folder on his website

Depends what access you have on the server. You could create a FTP user and set his home folder to a specific subfolder.0 -
you can create a new ftp sub account for a particular folder and protect it with password.0
