Tech help please with ethernet/linksys

Hi, have been trying to set up new Linksys cable router with my Desktop PC, have followed the instructions, right up to the point where it instructs me to remove the cable (connecting modem to PC) from my PC & plug into the Router. It doesn't fit!

The cable is a standard USB and there isn't a USB plug on the router.

I telephoned their support desk & was told I would have to purchase an ethernet cable

The problem is, the router came with an ethernet cable (to connect the modem & router), but where does this fit on my PC?

The connecter end of the ethernet cable looks like a telephone adaptor, but is much to wide to fit into the one on my PC?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you
