Can I Insure against my employers excess decision.

My boss has put out a memo to all staff to say that if we have an accident in the company vans, and it is our fault, then we have to pay the insurance excess of £250.00 (£500 for those under 25 yrs).

Does any one know of an insurer who would cover me for this eventuality.?

I dont have a private car insurance of my own.

Hi - no you won't be able to find insurance for this but legal issues arise here and as I recall it needs an amendment to your contract of emplyment before an employer can impose this condition.I am not a lawyer so I suggest you find a friendly local lawyer if you want advice on this especially if it applies to everyone at your firm.Don't automatically accept it as after all £250/500 is a lot of readies !

even if u did hav private insurance it would presumably for domestic purposes only - it wouldnt cover you for any driving you were doing for an employer

my old employer did the same - except it was only £100 excess

sure enough - my company car was broken into the very next night
and i had to cough up the £100
even though i argued that this wasnt technically "my fault"

i resigned shortly after
