Sainsbury jar of beetroot

How can they possibly charge £1.19 one week then £1.45 the following week????? I notice they do this quite a bit with different items, so blooming annoying. :naughty::naughty:

Could be a variety of reasons : original price was a loss leader, ingredients now costing Sainsburys more, "old" stock (but still well in date) being cleared at the lower price, not making enough profit on that particular item.

They can charge what they like...it's up to the consumer to decide whether they pay it or not.

Could be price elasticity testing - if we charge this much, how many will we sell? If we charge more, do our sales drop?

    That's how you maximise profit.

Quite easily. I eat a few jars of pickled onions a week and would notice the price. In fact I notice the price of nearly everything I buy.
  • I still have a jar of pickled onions left over from christmas, want me to send them to you :rotfl:

...or Sainsburys could be taking a leaf out of Asdas book and in 2 weeks time saying "Look, we've rolled the price of this beetroot back to £1.19... isn't that nice of us!!"

I love beetroot, one of my favourite veggies along with sweetcorn. Off topic I suppose.

I actually tried making my own but the effort of peeling the onions was too much. Especially when I eat them so quick.

You could make beef bourguignon with yours.
