going around in circles..need new account

my local bank hsbc has closed down it holds all my bills etc which are all paid online however i do get money in cash and cheques via my avon and another ad hoc job i do..now i really don't want a 3 mile trip with 2 toddlers in tow just to pay this in! I opened up a barcley savings account today but just realsied i can not access this online to transfer to my hsbc account without having a current account with them which i dont want nor need a current account with them, as my hsbc account is overdrawn and i cant afford to pay it all off when barcelys want to transfer it to thier current account!

In my high street there is also a natwest and a lloyds , is it at all possible to just open a savings account with either of these banks that i can access via the net to transfer to my hsbc account without ipening a new current account with them..or do i have to get my lazy backside into gear every week? many thanks for any.. help..i thought there was really no need for barcleys to insist i need to close my hsbc current account?

It would probably be better to just open a basic bank account which will allow you to do online transfers, like a Natwest Step Account, or a Lloyds TSB cashcard account, as I dont know of many savings accounts that would let you do a transfer to an outside bank account. I have a savings accoiunt with Natwest, and the the only account I can transfer to is my Natwest current account, although strangely I have a debit card for it.

You can open a Natwest Step account online. You can also use it at the Post Office

Can HSBC customers pay cash and cheques into their current a/c at the post office or are they still not on the list?

Edit: NO. Ah well. Was a thought...
