From 16th August 2010, any family caring for a severely disabled child in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland where household income is less than £28,000 will be eligible to apply for a grant, this was previously £23.000.
Household income is defined as money coming into a household after tax and national insurance has been paid. This includes tax credits and the main benefits but the Fund will continue to disregard Disability Living Allowance and Child Benefit. Where a family contains a disabled adult carer, Disability Living Allowance for this carer will also be disregarded.
Hope this helps some one.

Hi sorry but I think this is stupid and should take family circumstances into consideration, we are a family of 7 my oh is on 18,000 a year wages and as we have 4 out the 5 boys special needs , 3 get dla 2 high rate no mobility and youngest low rate, dla for our eldest goes on transport for youth clubs, after school stuff and repairing the house as he is very destructive,
the youngest goes on nursery fees
as our tax credits are high due to this we can't claim help off family fund anymore, I used to claim bedding as my eldest leaks but cant now.
We have no help with rent, tax or bills ect
just think they should take how many kids into consideration and circumstances
just my view

Hsl500, have you tried the Frank Buttle trust? They were a godsend for us recently as our drier had died a very slow and painful death, as our ds wets and soils daily the washer and dryer are use alot.
They supplied us with a new tumble dryer from comet and bedding, as far as i'm aware you can apply every 12 or 18 months for further help.
It's not means tested, they don't ask for any income details and the money comes from children in need.
Funds can be applied for through "agencies" but i have a lovely lady from the school, ( i think she is a parent advisor, not sure of her official title ) she applied on our behalf and it only took around 3 weeks from application to delivery.
Heres the web address so you can have a look and see if it can help you.
Good luck
