I dont know about the fee to activate it - I know I later paid a tenner each for mine to be kept on file for life rather than having to change and pay every time if we moved. Do you think thats what they mean - Petlog Premium its called.

Where did you have the chip done and what did they charge?

This is what they say about petlog premium:

you've had them chipped, now protect them with Petlog Premium for a one off lifetime (of your pet) fee of £10

As well as allowing you to access your records online, Petlog Premium gives you the following benefits:

Manage your pet's record and account online
Automatic email alert activation - sent over a 30 mile radius of where your pet went missing to vets, dog wardens etc
    Lost Pet Posters available
SMS Alert - text us to tell us your pet is missing
Update your contact details - as often as you need to
Add emergency contact or additional carer details
Add holiday or temporary address details - no matter where you travel you can be contacted if your pet goes missing
This is all free of charge for the lifetime of your pet, once you have paid the one-off fee of £10 per pet to go onto the Premium service.
  • I think I got stung for something similar when I had the kitten done...oh well, in for a penny and all that.

I never had to pay extra after my guys were done. You sure it's not the offer for when you change address? Your initial cost and registration for the chip should cover everything the only time you should get extra costs is if you want to change information.
  • The microchip is all done and paid for.............Petlog is like the extra warranty. Waste of money as far as Im concerned.

thats what i was wondering ,thanks for all your replies . the email is worded in such a way that it tries to make you think its a necessary part of microchipping.

Yeah, it's really annoying they don't mention it beforehand. Petlog premium is just 'added extras' such as if your dog goes missing I think they notify all dog wardens/vets etc within so many miles, you can also change your details such as address etc.

Well, seems worth a tenner to me to be honest.
  • Petlog would like to become THE biggest and only representative for microchip information, but they're not (yet) and it looks as if they never will be. Identichip wont play ball with them and they are one of the largest chip producers. This does mean that there is not yet, one number to dial to get all the information from one source. However, to be fair to Petlog, they will tell you who a chip is registered to, if not to them. Petlog tend to be associated with the "better value" chip producers e.g. back-home and Tracer. I sell Tracer at about £10 per pet and tend to make folk aware that Petlog will be in touch. I do agree that they make it sound as if you cant manage without the additional £10 fee.
