My husbands car insurance is due for renewal at the start of Oct so i have been looking around at the best quotes. We currently pay just over £500 annually at the moment. But the quotes i have been given are ridiculous the cheapest being £1100!!!!!!
My hubby is in his 30's has 1 conviction 4 yrs ago for speeding and has been driving for 6 yrs. Even the company we are with now has doubled it! Can anyone give me a good insurance company to try thanks x

Basically because this country is shafted. The only way we are heading is back into recession. By the time everyone's fixed outgoings are accounted for no one will have any disposable income left to spend.0

Cost of insurance "generally". Has increased. It appears that some post codes have been hit harder than others. Mine is due in a weeks time and its lower than last year. Just under £500 for a high performance car. I'm in my 30s but in a low risk postcode. So you can put your premiums in perspective to that.
If this is year 2 or 3 with the insurer then it could be loss of early year discounting. A number of insurers discount heavily in the early years but this can lead to a jump in premiums when that discounting is removed.

Unfortunatley insurance rates have increased quite considerably over the past six months. Believe or not many insurers are losing money in the motor market.
Depending on your criteria the most competitive quotes I have been seeing recently are from Aviva, LV and Axa.
I imagine you have tried the various comparison sites, if so try the direct companies like Direct Line and Aviva. Its also worth ringing a local broker who may have special schemes or deals that are not available on the net.

Thanks for your replies i have found LV cheaper than the most just over £600 but that will still bump our monthly premiums up by £20.
I had a conversation with a person at the AA who said basically because we had a bad winter last year and had many accidents the premiums had gone up for everyone.
The banks i have found the most expensive some being Lloyds TSB, Natwest and Nationwide and the supermarkets are not much cheaper these all being with their mega online discounts!!!!!!!.
So when a car insurance add claims to be hundreds cheaper than the rest it is a load of CRAP and the joke is on the honest motorist!0 -
OP, have you tried a quote from the Co-op?
Was with Direct Line for years until they put my premiums up very sharply 2 years ago and I got some quotes with the Co-op coming out the cheapest by a long margin. I pay less £14.50 a month with them fully comp (car only worth £1500 though).
You get divvy as well!Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
Funny you say that have just tried them and the quote has come in under £500!0
