I usually buy canned sweetcorn (in water, no added sugar or salt) but can't stand canned peas so buy frozen. I was wondering today whether I should also start buying frozen sweetcorn? Is it any better for you and does it work out any cheaper? What type of sweetcorn do you all buy and why?

I have bought both but actually prefer tinned sweetcorn but frozen peas, altough i must say on occassions i do quite like those french jars of petis pois and baby carrots, although they do look a little grey!Pawpurrs x0

I always buy frozen sweetcorn, but I couldn't tell you which is cheaper I'm afraid. I suspect canned is cheaper, but I don't think it is as nice. It's more convenient in a bag I think.
Fresh corn is in season at the moment0 -
I suppose it depends if you generally use a whole tin at a time. Otherwise get a bag of frozen so you can take out as much as you need. As for whether one is better for you than the other, I doubt it.
We eat tinned peas too, because they are so easy to heat in the microwave. I once did a meal for visiting family and used frozen peas. Unfortunately I under-estimated the timing in the boiling water, and they were stone cold when I served them.

I think tinned sweetcorn is much tastier. I bought frozen for years and have tried steaming, boiling and microwaving it but never seemed to be tender. I bought a tin instead to try and I've never bought frozen since.
I think it works out a bit dearer, I buy it in Lidl for about 28p per big tin, sorry can't remember the amount in it. The same size as the large green giant one!:smileyhea0 -
I always used to buy frozen sweetcorn because I thought it was cheaper even though I much preferred canned, then realised that it wasn't so I only buy canned now - I find the value brands are fine.
I keep any leftovers in the fridge for a couple of days.
I've always loved sweetcorn, up until a few years ago it was the only vegetable I would eat (I'm reformed now and only have a dislike for chard, and i'll even have a go at that most of the time...):shhh: There's somewhere you can go and get books to read... for free!

I always buy frozen peas and corn-on-the-cobs but tinned sweetcorn kernels. I find the frozen cobs stay much sweeter than perhaps they do if they're separated first. I do have frozen sweetcorn kernels too though, to mix with peas occasionally, and then you don't notice they're not as sweet. I'd never realised how picky I was about it all! lol. I'd say it's definitely cheaper to buy the frozen as you'd get many more meals out of a bag than you would a tin.
I had tried to grow my own sweetcorn this year but only one plant survived and the cob, which was looking great, just pretty much stopped growing once the really hot days had gone. I'd never bother buying fresh sweetcorn as practically all the sugar has turned to starch by the time you get to eat it.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
I buy frozen sweetcorn kernels as it seemed to work out cheaper, frozen peas too, corn on the cob i buy fresh though as i found the frozen ones went soggy once cooked0

I buy both frozen and tinned loose sweetcorn, I prefer tinned (no cook) for cold pasta salads and stuff and favour frozen for hot dishes. Whole cobs I buy frozen and fresh depending which is cheaper at the time but prefer the frozen for taste and texture. Tinned peas I hate and always buy frozen.Life's a beach! Frozen corn cos it tastes much nicer. Tinned has a weird sweet taste that I don;t like. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I buy frozen for cooking as I wouldn't use a whole tin. However, as someone else has alreadymentioned, I only buy fresh corn on the cob as frozen is too soft for me.0
