Video corruption problems

Hi all,
got a new win 7 64-bit installation. I seem to be having trouble playing certain youtube/vimeo videos. The sound is ok, but the video looks corrupted. Most of them are ok, it only seems to be certain ones. This is across all browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera etc.).

e.g. this firefox video is corrupted when I try to play:

http://vimeo.com/13560319

Any ideas what is going on? Talk to me!

Yes am using built in core i3 graphics and I have the latest Intel HD graphics driver, version 8.15.0010.2119

Ok thanks a lot! That seems to have worked!!

Can anyone explain what this means? Will I suffer any loss in performance without having hardware acceleration enabled? Any ideas why it wasn't working on my pc???

  • Hi, no you won't suffer any performance loss. Hardware Acceleration is Windows taking over some of the Video tasks from the video drivers, handy if the drivers aren't up to the task but sometimes Windows gets it wrong and is less efficient than the drivers themselves, turning it off lets the drivers do all the work, having acceleration on actually forces other bits of your system do the job, you use more of your processor and ram to decode video.

Although your i3 has an inbuilt GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) it's not very advanced, fine for Office applications and easily replaces motherboard inbuilt graphics but not up to higher definition video, you would be better served with a separate graphics card if video is the main purpose of your PC.
