DD1 still hasn''t been allocated accommodation

Options
Hi all

I know there is little anyone can do about this. I just need to rant:mad:

DD1 was given a conditional offer in January to study for a BA in fashion Design at BCU in Birmingham, the condition being that she completed her foundation year, which she did in June.

On receipt of confirmation of her results from the foundation, she immediately contacted BCU who changed her offer to unconditional and having made this her firm choice was then able to apply for accommodation. She received confirmation of her accommodation application on 23rd June and was told she should hear in July. She had to put down 6 choices, 3 of which are some way from where she will be studying, but the form wouldn't let you go on unless you completed all 6 choices.

Since the beginning of August, having heard nothing, she has been ringing weekly to be told she is still 'waiting allocation' and should hear next week. Well next week never seems to come and she was told the same again yesterday - how can they be so behind in allocating her a room :mad::mad::mad:

What makes it even worse is that all the BCU rental agreements start on 12th September so within 9 days she has to start paying rent, and doesn't even know where she is living yet

She's my first 'baby' moving away and it really is adding to the anxiety (mixed in with great excitement on her part) of leaving home for the first time. All her friends at other Uni's have known where they're living for ages and made contact via Facebook etc with people they will be living with and this is taking the shine a little off of what should be a really exciting time for her.

Rant over - thanks ;)

Is she hot? I live up the road and will quite happily share my bed....

    (I joke)

When does she start her course? It might be that the halls are all full and they're waiting for people to drop out which is why they are delaying everything. I can't think of any other reason.

She is beautiful - but as her mother I obviously can't condone your offer :D

Freshers starts 20th September so she was planning on moving in on 18th. Your post has just made me even more paranoid though How can she be unallocated when she applied so early ? They said they were allocating on a first come first serverd basis so surely everyone who didn't know results until A-levels in August would be behind her in the queue ?

Am now wondering if she should apply to the (more expensive) private housing at Curzon Gateway? She is going to be at Gosta Green but wanted Oscott Gardens as it's the main campus. Oh God, really confused now !

Not sure how BCU works, I can't really grasp their website. But with Staffs you apply for accomondation once you accept as first choice, so this can be early in the year... rather than June. Quite a number of months before that infact.

However it does say on their website:
If you do not live in Birmingham and have accepted an offer on a full-time course at Birmingham City University, you are guaranteed a room in our halls of residence during your first year of study, provided you have applied to study here by the end of the Autumn Term.

I would phone them up again asking exactly why she hasn't been given accomondation yet, given it's only a few weeks before she is meant to enroll.

Just to update, she appears to have been missed by BCU student accommodation whi finally informed us on Tuesday that she hasn't been allocated a room! This despite living 2 hours away and applying in June and seeing on The Student Room other students who applied after her and / or live much closer.

However, we went up to Bham yesterday and she has secured a room at Curzon Gateway and is now looking forward to moving in next Saturday :T
