My poor tomatoes

I have finally noticed my tomatoes are ripening up and this morning saw one was brightly red/orange and went to see and found that underneath the fruit it has been eaten? or has something wrong with it?

These fruits are 2 ft high on the plant and as far as i know i have no slugs about (egg shells around and copper band round the pot).

Any ideas what it is? Is it edible if i cut this part away?

I'd cut those bits off and eat them. The rest looks fine. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • I am pleased! glad its not something bad!

I`m no expert, infact this is my first ever time at growing my own but i was wondering if it was where they have been wet through bad rain non stop for 2 weeks?
It is only the bottoms of the fruit and i noticed on my others that seem ok at the moment but still green that they hold water on the bottoms of the fruit - i`ve dried them a bit incase it is this:rotfl:

Spooky I came onto this board to post the same question! I would love to know the answer, the only fruits that are ripening have this black flat mark on the bottom!
No Matter what you do there will be critics.
  • Is that tomato blight by any chance? I'm a novice tomato grower.

I don't know if anyone can help me but the last 2 years iv'e grown toms the fruits have gone the normal green but then turned a sort of purple colour and split all the way round the middle, does anyone know what might have caused this?
  • The fruit splits because the soil has dried out and then you have watered it, you should not let the soil dry out completely, I have been more careful this year and only one or two toms per plant have split.

The slugs are loving mine though, the damage is similar to what is in the picture, but they have not turned black inside so not sure if yours is slug damage too?
  • Agree with Robert, it's blossom end rot not blight. Thinking feeding tomatoes can help. Our marmande's have been suffering. Fine to eat as long as you cut out the black bit (well I'm not dead yet :) )

Me three! I'm just cutting out the funny bit, however..... I am having slugs eat them too! There is shiny slug bum all over the leaves and the stems!
