You cannot get a disc early unless the vehicle is already taxed.
As soon as I renew mine I dump the old one and fit the new one.
I thanked you instead of quoting you. I didn't mean to.

See above post. It sets out on there what the rules are. Basically, if you buy a disc to use immediately it is valid on the day of issue but if that is mid-month, it will start from the 1st of the current month. If you buy in advance it does not start until the 1st day of the next month. You are therefore not displaying a valid disc if you renew it in advance and then use it.0 -
The offence is "Not displaying a current Tax Disc" I've always put the new one in straight away when I've bought the new one.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

A disc which does not begin until the 1st day of the next month is not current or valid. See the link above.0 -
The link says
It comes into force on the day it is issued.
It goes on to say
...if you apply for a tax disc in advance, it comes into force on the first day of the following month and you should not display it on your vehicle until then.
It says should and not shall or must.
I wager that no-one has been nor ever will be prosecuted for displaying a tax disc too soon. The 'in advance' may refer to taxing a new car in August when it is being registered on 1 September.
I guess its a case of
Rules are for fools and the guidance of wise men.

It does indeed say that. I still think it is a bl**dy stupid rule though!
I suppose it would be ok to put in the new disc and put the old one on the dashboard next to it0 -
