CAR TAX Online or PO?

Is it good to get your car tax renewal online or would it be better to still get it at the post office? Also if you apply early does it still count from the day its due to expire or from the day you apply?
Also my daughter never got a reminder at all last year should she get one?

I just got mine online and it was so easy as i could not find my MOT Cert the tax disc continues when the old one expires and you need a new style electronic MOT. It came within 2 days by post
Well happy

It doesn't matter either way, but the online one comes all nicely printed up and they post it out quickly. As long as you have a new style MOT then you can do it online. It will apply from the first day of the new month as it always has.Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
I was amazed at how well the online service worked. I applied late one evening. They must've processed it and posted the very next day as I received it the day after that. Far less hassle than finding a post office that does car tax and then queuing for ages.0

Just be careful if you are taxing a car that was not previously taxed (following a period of SORN for example).
When I tried to tax my cabriolet earlier this year, I couldn't do it early (around 24th) so that I would have the disc on the 1st (a Bank Holiday). I taxed it online on 1st but had to drive around without a disc and at risk of prosecution for a few days until it arrived.
I suppopse, if you like the local post office, it's better to use them than risk losing them.

My daughter couldn't buy the tax online without insurance because she had to wait for her new insurance company to inform DVLA. In fact, she had to chase the new insurance company to do this. Once this was done, buying tax online was no problem. We find this is so much easier than doing it in a P.O.

That is a point really as our local one is at risk I would not want to see that go.
She taxed it at the post office last year so if she chooses to do it online it should be ok then as the sorn thing wouldnt affect her. Even if you do it at the po you still have to wait for the disc to arrive though dont you but dont you get proof you have paid for it just in case the disc doesnt come on time?Thanx

It is an offence to drive around without DISPLAYING a valid tax disc. Therefore even if you have paid for it and it has not arrived you could be fined for this offence which has nothing to do with the fine the DVLA can impose for non renewal or non declaration of SORN.
They do check if your car is insured if you renew online as all vehicles are on an insurance database.
Agree with Need_More_Money, if you but at the post office they should give you disc there and then.0 -
I dont know why she had to wait then but if you get the disc there and then I'm sure she will choose post office. This was the main post office in our town aswell on the high street. I remember her coming back worried in case it didnt come in time as she hadnt had a reminder so was quite late getting itThanx
