Hi, sorry to hear of your pain.

I am on a low fat diet, but to loose weight.

i have cut out cheese, chocolate, pastry etc.

I now eat a lot of fruit & veg. I make veg chillie & a luvly curry with cous cous.
The best thing i have found is Quark, a virtually fat free soft cheese. I use it in sandwiches with cucumber (no need for butter of marg), on baked potatoes or to make sauces seem creamy. I experimented with it. I also use it with a jelly, which I make with only half the water, whizzed up, it's like a mouse when it sets, but with no fat!!

Get some & try things out.

    Hope you're better son.

We found a really good site, someone earlier mentioned that weight watchers helped her. If you do a search for oldchem, this is a lady that has made a huge website of recipes suitable for people following weightwatchers. We made a really good chinese meal for my mums birthday, who was at the time actively sticking to weightwatchers!
It's the start of the no takeaway challenge.

I had gallstones a few years back and found that sticking to a general, healthy, low fat diet helped - basically I made sure that anything I ate had less than 4% fat, there's a good selection of stuff out there. I was also given a copy of Rosemary Conley's Hip and Thigh diet which was good, I used a lot of the recipes in that. Lots of fruit and veg, high fibre (I found that if I ate anything gooey or indigestible that'd set me off too, regardless of whether it was low fat or not), lean meat etc.

Years ago, when she was just starting out, Rosemary Connelly was on This Morning and she said she based her hip & thigh diet on a diet she followed when she had gallstones. So I expect that following that would be fine for you - and you probably could find a copy second hand or in the library.

Just thought I'd drop in and say Hi. I've had gallstones for the last year or so (mis-diagnosed as several other things prior), and am waiting for my op (9 month waiting list in Cardiff:eek: ). I'm veggie, but found reducing dairy products has really helped the amount (if not the severity) of the attacks. I've substituted cows milk for rice milk (Soya is foul IMO!), and have reduced but not cut out stuff like cheese and chocolate. It seems to be helping.
:D Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today. :D
  • I do feel for you and know exactly what you are going through, I had my gallbladder out in October after being taken into hospital with acute pancreatitis because a gallstone had got stuck in my pancreas...........so you really do need to stick to a low fat diet until removal as the pain I went through is just not worth it.

The rule of thumb is to stick to foods that are less that 5% fat per 100g grams look at the nutrition label on the back, follow this and you will have no problems, lots of fruit and veg, you can adapt most dishes to a low fat version without noticing, get yourself a couple of Rosemary Conley books. As for sweet tooth you can get low fat biscuits and cakes (tesco, asda, weight watchers) and jelly babies, marshmallows boiled sweets etc are all fat free, you will be amazed at what you can buy that is low fat actually.

Good luck you will be fine;)
:snow_laugChristmas is just around the corner

Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself:kisses3:

i went to my dr and was following a no fat diet and no alcohol over christmas - i had jaundice due to a stuck stone and the dr did his best to keep me out of hospital with anti-b's. unfourtunaty it didn't work and i was admitted with pancretitis (sp) to compound everything else - down to 15% liver function - no drink or fat for 6 months till i was fit enough for surgery..scary

please stick to a low fat diet and no alcohol (i became scarily ill) whith the diet and no alcohol thing.

yikes.. i had these too.. when i was 21!!! youngest person to go thru my local hospital with them ( not the best clai to fame i admit!)...pain of a full on attak is unlike anything i have ever before or ever eperienced!
im with everyone else on the Rosemary Connoly and dont forget you can eat meringue..i made meringue roulades with flavoured fat free fromage frais ( i was okay with these dairy product wise), and fresh fruit such as raspberrys's etc. Still didnt substitute cholcolate but it cant me thru.
hope you get your sorted soon.
:EasterBun ...what more do I need to say?!
its all in the name of medical science.
  • I would also recommend the Rosemary Conley diets. Having lost over 3 stone on her GI Jeans Diet, its low fat, low GI and to be honest you don't feel like you are on a diet.

I think the latest RC diet out is the GI Hip & Thigh, costs about £3/£4 from Tesco, Asda, etc. She also has a monthly magazine but thats about £2.60 a copy.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted out soon.
