Does anyone know how to get in touch with gas and electricity suppliers if you don't know who they are?

M-number (gas) 0870 6081524 and M-Pas (leccy) 0845 3300889 will give you the current suppliers for the property. You may need your meter readings to hand when you call them. Once you know the suppliers, you can find out if there's a live supply or whether you will need to be reconnected.

Have a cup of tea and take a nice leisurely dump. :money:
  • Before you buy any locks, check your house/contents insurance. Many (all?) require that you have at least a five-lever mortice lock on the last door of exit - usually, the front door. In fact, why don't you contact the local police station and see if they offer a crime prevention visit.

Make sure you know where the main switch is for the electricity and the stopcock for the water.

I would suggest a can of air freshner as well with all of the above! Helped a friend move in a couple of weeks ago and we were appaled at the stench of cabbage that permeated throughout the house...
So give it your smell straight away!
  • Have a look at iammoving.com, seems to cover most things for letting people know. Will be using them myself when time comes, hope it's not too long as may have to double up with new baby announcements!!

  • Everyone seems to be suggesting that changing the lock is a pretty standard thing to do.

Is that what you should do then??

I am getting keys on the 13th Oct and the first thing I will be doing is putting net curtains up......I hate them but have no intention of buying blinds. The house is next to the road to have to really.

Get the local takeaway menu's, not MSE but if you have been moving all day I seriously doubt you will have the strength or inclination to cook
Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY
