Bathroom suites - mixing and matching

I'm in the process of getting quotes for a bathroom refurb. I have an extremely small bathroom, the size of a cloakroom, and I keep seeing things I like that belong to different suites. Because of colour differences I have asked the different workmen and shops if I can pick and choose from different suites i.e a bath from one, a toilet from another but I keep getting conflicting answers. Some say you can mix and match and some say you can't. One bath shop said you can mix and match within their store as everything would be the same colour and another bath store said it doesn't make any difference nowadays as there is very little difference in the colours. I am talking about basic white. Has anyone bought bath, toilet and sink from different stores and suites?

I buy stuff from all over the place and I can't notice any difference. Both of my bathrooms in my house are a mixture. In fact I mix and match all the time in developments and I've never had anything where I could tell a difference.

Maybe if I sat my toilet in my bath I'd notice a difference but it's over the room with other things in between. Or maybe if I stared at them for ages?!

I've got a very old bath and a more recently upgraded loo and sink, I can see the difference if I look very closely - but I wouldn't know whether that's more to do with age.
In general anyone in a shop is going to err on the side of caution when giving you advice, it's better for them to warn a customer off mixing and matching and be able to say "I told you so" than have to deal with complaints later on.

We bought three different makes for bath/basin/toilet. Basin in Roca, bath is Carron and toilet is NoCode. Yes there is a difference. The bath and toilet are a nice bright white and you can't see any real difference but the Roca basin is definitely a different shade of white - a greyish white, it certainly doesn't have the same brightness by any stretch of the imagination. Fortunately they are not close enough together to notice and with two windows there's different types of light at different times of day. If I was doing it again I would definitely check the whites were a close match or go for all the same range.

I just re did my bathroom, on a budget, so the toilet was the 50quid one from B and Q, the bath was the 120quid one from Bathstore (panels from Homebase) and the sink was a costly 170quid from Wickes. I cant see any difference and my bathroom is very small so i think i would notice. For the sink Wickes wanted another 200 quid, 100for the shelf it needed and another hundred for the brackets!!! A belfast kitchen sink carcass and some glossy doors and a bit of carpentry did wonders!!!!!
  • I mixed and matched and youcan't tell the difference. Toilet from homebase, bath from b&q and sink from homebase again but a different range.
  • I had bath/shower tray/loo/sinks from 4 different places - can't see any probs with shading. Ditto for sink/loo/shower tray in second bathroom.
  • I guess I shouldn't risk it as my 'suite' will all be sitting literally within inches of each other due to size of bathroom..It's a real nuisance..
