Quote for water pump to increase pressure

morning all!
My house has very low water pressure (particularly upstairs where it takes approx 30 mins to run a bath). I have had a plumber in and he has quoted £690 to supply and fit a water pump to increase the presure throughout the whole house. I did say that I wanted a pump that would do the job very well and obviously I knew that it would be more expensive than a lesser pump.
Does £690 sound about right? On the quote he also stated that he could get a slightly cheaper pump and do the whole lot for £650.
I was told by a plumbing centre that a really good pump would cost approx £300 so I admit i was a little shocked when i opened the quote from the plumber. I was expecting to pay around £500 ish. What do you guys think??

Depends on the pump - (make / model proposed?) to a certain extent - it could be a super dooper, gold plated, you can't bend it, £500 pump for all we know. You can pick up a reasonable whole house pump for a lot less. The plumbing centres input is not relevant unless its like for like. What plumbing works does he need to do to facilitate its installation? In the meantime arrange for at least one other guy to come round and quote you then you have data to do direct comparisons against on a like for like basis. Remember noone on here has seen this job.

Hi
I take it you are attempting to increase the pressure /flow of the water stored in your house.
Not the incoming mains water?

yes it is to increase the pressure of water stored in the house.
The plumber said that he would not quote for a top of the range pump but a middle of the range decent quality one that would do the job properly. He said plumbing wise he would need to intercept the cold and hot pipes (22ml ones)and extend them in order to fit the pump.
Thanks for you input.0
