Holiday Apartment London

Can anyone recommend a nice holiday apartment in London? My dates are for 13-17 Sept. and budget is under £400. I would go for a hotel room but only if it had a kitchenette of some kind...

Also, which is the better option..the oyster card or travel card when traveling in zones 1 and 2???

Cheers.

  • When I was there last month they only sell 1 day or 7 day travelcards now, not the 3 day ones. if you don't go there much.An oyster card is cheap but you have the hassle of claiming the deposit back

The Oyster card is very convenient, use it on buses as well as tubes. Just slap it on the yellow discs and walk through, brilliant. You pay £3 deposit for the card but you dont have to claim it back, you can keep it for next time you go to London or there are large boxes where you can dump it for charity when you have finished with it.

If you make less than about 3 journeys a day Oyster will be cheaper, otherwise Oyster and Travelcard will cost the same (Oyster PAYG is capped to the price of a daily travelcard).

If you think you'll be making more than about 3 journeys a day every day, a 7 day travelcard is likely to be a better bet than buying 5 daily travelcards. Whether you buy a paper travelcard or an Oyster-based travelcard is up to you, but bear in mind that paper travelcards can be easily lost or damaged, while with Oyster you can register the card so you don't lose the credit if you lose the card, but the cards themselves have to be purchased (you can return them later for a refund).

On the subject of apartments, I don't know of anywhere myself but a lot of people sublet their places when they go away (rents in London are so expensive). Have a look under short term rentals on gumtree, but tread very carefully as gumtree is full of scams (but it's still the best site for classified ads in London) and steer clear of anything that's obviously too good to be true.
