Printer problems wont recognise PC

I had a virus and that was sorted out. Was told it attached to the printer parts or progs software etc. Anyways, I uninstalled it, as the program was not working no more, and reinstalled the disc for the printer and its still not working. It keeps saying about connecting cables which I have done, but its not recognising the connection.


Could the cables on my printer be !!!!!!ed?
Could it be the disc?
I noticed there seems to be a kind of battery I think thats attached to the printer, or maybe the electrical device thingy, Power thingy, Maybe that has gone? I think it has voltage on it. Looks bit like one of those adapters really.

I have a lexmark printer.

Before the virus hit it was working fine. But since getting rid of virus and reconnecting, nothing. The CD loads up to a certain point and then states it cant recognise the connection.

The printer light comes on from the main sockets, but does not seem to recognise the pc. mmmm.

Ideas anyone?

My PC had a complete clean up cause it was in a mess and it now working much faster and better. All other programs are working fine.

Which OS? Windows XP/Vista/7
Is Pirinter connnected using USB?

BTW if its windows, Check if you have usb.inf file in C:\Windows\inf folder

Sometime viruses remove this file.

First check if the printer itself is functioning by printing a test page with it disconnected from the PC. You didn't say which model, so can't help you with that, but the manual will tell you how. If that works OK then you know it's probably a software issue.
Then check if the printer is showing up in Device Manager.

Un plug the printer un install the printer software then go to the lexmark website and down load the laest software for you printer and and do a clean install.

windows xp I have the printer is lexmark Z615, yes it has two cables, one for main socket and other for the back of the machine

nope that is not there. so how do I get it back?

ok will try that later, I didnt think it could print a test page on being disconected from pc actually. The light comes on, on the printer.

Its a lexmark Z615 model. Xp Software in pc.

I think I want to scream now, I went into printer set up and Lexmark and it has other printer numbers there but not my one, mine is Z615, since its not in the printer set up I really dont know what else to do, I went onto this site update driver for mine and they wanted money for it. I think I may have to get someone down to look at it or take it back to shop and get him to do it and pay out more money, I dont know what else to do.

You go to the Lexmark support site, you don't have to pay for driver downloads. did you use this link?

I didnt know but thanks as I have now saved this site for future ref.

But I actually managed to download driver manually by typing it in search myself.
