This has already ben mentioned on the car-insurance thread, but I thought it needed a wider audience:
Your personal details may be at risk if you use some comparison sites. Identity theives can access your saved quotes just by entering your e-mail address or answering some basic questions.
Have a look at the story on the PC Pro website. They tested comparethemarket and confused.com I'm not allowed to post links for some reason, but hopefully a more senior member will pick this up and post the necessary link.

Well don't give your real details obviously !
I'm amazed people just give away all their personal info on these sites. Only use them as a guide. If you see a quote you like, go to the insurer direct (preferably via a cashback site so you get the commission); then obviously give your real details. They don't need to know your exact details in order to give you a rough quote. As long as you give the right postcode, give them any old cobblers for name/tel no/email - they don't need these, apart from to flog your details on to whoever wants them.

I always use fake names and address and DOB, i just use a few days off my birthday and a street down the road.0
