that's a fair point Sepa, hadn't thought of that. will have to ensure we keep a good stock of camping gas in if we do go down the chimney route.
just phoned the mortgage to check the balance (and ensure we hit our min. call level to avoid BT stinging us for low usage charges). Currently at £129,067.40 Reassuring to see the numbers heading in the right direction.
spent part of the evening getting to grips with the couponing thread. contemplating putting the money i save through coupons into a pot, possibly towards OPing :think:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Thanks for pointing that out, Sepa. Must check if my gas fire works when the leccy's off. Perhaps I'll give it a go when the electrician has got the leccy off anyway, which should be happening soon.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

another £75 gone mortgage ward. It's been nice to see the numbers whizzing round, but things will slow dramatically now that tutoring is coming to an end for the academic year. Need to re-assess the budget to see if I can squeeze some more pennies from somewhere.
Off to pick up my new glasses today :jknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

Just popping in to see how things are going. We're now moved into our 'new' house and BT eventually connected us to the phone network on Thursday.
I'm still with the chimney brigade. This house has an open fire with backboiler that heats the water and powers three (once the third one is fixed) radiators. In time, we'll upgrade to a multifuel stove, as I loved the one we had in the rental and used to cook on it quite a bit. (It was in the kitchen).
Keep up the good work with the OPs. Our last rent payment ended on 7th June when we finally moved here and it's a great feeling knowing we're mortgage free even if it's a bit daunting looking at the amount of work needing to be done and the savings practically all gone. Roll on summer and let's hope we get a warm and dry one with just enough rain to stave off drought conditions. Did you decide to incorporate any raised bed into your garden for some veggies?I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I was happily browsing the £50 shelf with the assistant handing me various styles to try on and all of a sudden, a pair just felt right and seemed to suit me, so I said I'd take them. I didn't realise she'd been handing me styles from all over and they were hugely expensive.I was too embarrassed to say they were too dear (and I kinda wanted them) so I said nothing, paid up and left.
I wish I'd just stuck to the 'interesting interpretation' of the labels now. It would have been much cheaper.
Hope you're happy with yours.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Hi all,
can't believe it's been over a month since I last updatedI guess life is what happens when you are busy making other plans. Hope you're all well, I've been trying to get up to date with all your diaries to see what I've missed whilst I've been AWOL. All is well in Pavlov Towers, just been manic in school.
6 blissful weeks stretching ahead of me, and there's a LOT I want to do in that time. My timetable for next year is horrific (cue rocking back and forth chanting "it's only for a year, it's only for a year") So I need to get myself and the house properly organised so that I have time next year to a) have a better work/life balance and b) take on some responsibilities which will make promotions more easy to come by.
I also HAVE to shift the half stone I've put on this last term through eating so much crap. Taking better care of me therefore also has to go firmly on the agenda. I really need to find the motivation to get exercising again. If only it were as easy to do as it is to write
getting a grip on the budget is up there too.. I'm scared to look if i'm honest because it's been left to do it's own thing for far too long. Again it comes down to not being organised enough to have time to do it. Whilst we can afford to not watch every penny, I know we aren't getting the most bang for our buck at the mo. This has to change.
Might do a Twinklie and post a 'to do' list here (for the week, not the 6 weeks, don't want to give you all heart attacks)and then you can all nag me into action!

Thought you were conspicuous by your absence.
....... there's a LOT I want to do in that time.
Such as growing cucumbers?
........So I need to get myself and the house properly organised so that I have time next year to a) have a better work/life balance
Growing cucumbers would help with that.
b) take on some responsibilities which will make promotions more easy to come by.
I believe cucumber growing is a responsible pastime which would positively affect your CV. Schools these days value teachers who can include 'back to nature' aspects in their teaching timetable. So I'm told. :rotfl:
I also HAVE to shift the half stone I've put on this last term through eating so much crap.
I feel I have to point out here that cucumbers are mainly water and are therefore very beneficial to a person's diet.

*sigh* one cucumber plant can provide enough cucumbers for cucumber sandwiches for the next 6 months. (If you slice them really thin.)
Whilst we can afford to not watch every penny, I know we aren't getting the most bang for our buck at the mo. This has to change.
Yes, yes it does. May I suggest something that gives a good yield?Cucumbers. Yes indeedy.
...........and then you can all nag me into action!
