Harassment by Student Loans Company

I became a mature student in the early 80's and completed a three year degree. My husband started a course but had to give up due to financial problems. After graduating my eldest child was diagnosed as autistic and I have been his full time carer since then. My husband became s/e as he was often needed at home. Since the Student Loan Company was 'privatised' some years ago we get continued harassment year in year out. The claim that they do not receive forms/proof of income etc. The first year my husband was fined £110 as they claimed they did not recieved his forms. The next year we sent the forms together and they said they recieved his but not mine (this dispute is still ongoing). This year my deferment went through OK but my husband recieved no forms - we rang and forms arrived, now they have said they have not received these. They refused to accept the Family Credit form as proof of income as they said it was too low!! Everything we have sent over the last two year has been recorded delivery but it makes no difference - they still claim they do not recieved the forms on time so they can issue 'fines'. Our income is basically family credit and invalid care allowance so why are we harassed? Ho long will this continue? I graduated approx 15 yrs ago and I am now 55 - do we get harassed till we die???? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

  • you can claim the 'fines' back the same as bank fees and you'll stand a very good case in court to have any and all fees removed soley on the case that you have proof of the forms delivered on time.. I fyou make a formal complaint and say you are seeking legal advice they will sit up and take notice - good luck.
