JSA Claim Closed

Hi. :hello:
I have made JSA claim late in July and was signing at the local Job Centre since. On August 27th, I've received a letter (dated 25-08-2010) asking me to provide a confirmation from college that my course, which ended in June, is finished, with the deadline that I should provide the information by 1st of September; and that until they receive that confirmation, they will be unable to make a decision on my claim. I contacted the college right-away and they told that someone will call me on monday (it was then Friday). No-one contacted me on Monday.
On Tuesday I have called the Jobcentre and told them that I would need more time. They asked me whether a week will do, and I said it would. The college contacted me today to say that as my fee is not yet being paid by student finance England, they are unable to provide any sort of confirmation till that fee is paid. (Student Finance England contacted me on a week ago asking for my 08/09 wages, which I've sent out today. I still don't even know my exam results because this fee not being paid).
I called the Jobcentre right-away to inform them, but they greeted me with the fact that my claim was closed yesterday, 1st of September, as I've failed to meet the deadline. I've explained that I was given a week extension, but they said that there's no note of that in the computer. As a result, they told me to make a new claim, and appeal against that decision if I disagree. What would you recommend me to do? I regret not taking the name of the person I have spoken to when I got the extension (I saw no reason to). What would be the best way to proceed? Thanks.
