I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

It suggests that spillage is causing a short (possibly intermittent, possibly permanent) on either the Alt or Ctrl keys on the laptop.

Unfortunately, if that's the case, using a USB keyboard won't overcome the problem, as Windows will typically take key inputs from ~all~ connected keyboards.

If leaving it to dry doesn't help, removing it, washing in distilled water and drying thoroughly may do. Otherwise, replacing the keyboard is the only realistic option.

Last week I posted a similar Question on here although my son had not spilt anything on his lap top it was doing as you discribe.
I was told that the Fn key was stuck, a little flick on that and it all worked prperly.
    hope this helps Drinda.

spoke too soon, after pushing fn keys a few times it seemed ok but after 10 minutesi it started acting up again except this time it was worse. could not even let me use the on line keyboard. desktop bit kept flashing on and off. think i have really damaged it beyond repair this time, a message keeps coming up now too telling me i have reached the end of my battery life and need to buy a new one through dell. even tried restoring but think may have damaged keyboard beyond repair. maybe time to buy new one only had it 2 years but cant use note book all the time as too small. loads of good deals about at the moment but which is the best?

you can get a battery and keyboard through ebay, probably £50 for the pair. Both are pretty easy to change :) Even if you take it to someone to change the keyboard for you, fixed up for around £70 all-in.
