would any of your childrens friends mums be able to help you out until you can find something more permanent, or how about getting a babysitter to look after them in your own home. My dd is 17 and she used to baby sit for my friends in summer hols etc? I know how hard it can be to find childcare, where I live it's really bad too. It seems such a shame for you to miss out on this job, the after school clubs are full now but sometimes places will come free as the term starts.

Do you have your childrens names down on all the waiting lists?

They are on the waiting list, I could use a baby sitter but not for long due to cost as i wont get help with childcare if they are not registered.

I realise it wouldn't be ideal but at least if you use a babysitter at first until you can arrange something else you will be able to take the job. My daughter used to get £30 a week for looking after my friends for 2 hours a day 5 days a week in the summer hols (last year, this year she wasn't needed and was gutted lol)

Contact any local colleges which offer Childcare courses and see if you can put a postcard up.

Contact the student's union / Job Shop at the Universities and see if you can advertise there.

Short term, any nanny / childcare agencies locally?

Have you asked at the after school clubs? Ours frequently have spaces in September as the eldest lot have moved onto secondary school. Do any private nurseries offer school pick up plus their facitlites for primary school aged kids? How many days do you need care for?

Hi, nothing to suggest really other than what has been said. Being a childminder i was wondering if the minders you have asked are full or just don't want to do it as over 8's are usually not classed in numbers so your 8yr old would poss be fine with even full minders..maybe the 6 year old is the prob (in a nice way!) but some just don't do afterschool. I know you know this and i'm not trying to nit pick but there has been a LOT of hype lately in the papers etc about people leaving their children with babysitters or unregistered people..you will not get any help but the main factor is IF your children get hurt in anyway playing you have no leg to stand on as childminders are covered insurance wise etc. I'm not trying to pick and make thigs harder but just making others aware too that it is not the best solution. I realsie you are talking about a temp situation.

I really hope you find someone to have them and you can do your job..xx

If there's a shortage of childminders have you thought of being one yourself?

Tons of paperwork and very strict rules, but would it bring in enough money to bring your finances up to where they should be? either that or a job later in the evenings working from home?

I have thought but I do not have the patience, plus my husband works noghts so the house needs to be kept quite during the day.
