Wanting to become self employed!

Hi all ,

I am in full time employment but would like to start a small business just doing maintenance and other small works. I dont see myself earning more than 2-3k a year doing it, Unless it grows bigger.

Is there any advice you can give me?

I am also looking to purchase a small computer to help me with creating quotes and emails etc are there any tax insentives?

I look forward to some useful responses.....

How old are you? Are you over 25, if so, you maybe able to claim working tax credits provided you work 30hours a week?

hi there, im self employed 5 yrs and im not sure if this is just in scotland but the buisness gateway was a great help they help you with book keeping courses and keep you right on what you will be able to claim for in tax i also got a £1000 grant that was free but this was 5 yrs ago not sure if this is still the case with all these cut backs and again im not sure if this has changed but in my first yr i purchased a laptop which was 100% tax allowed as well as my car was 90% (i think vans are 100%) i was full time self employed tho so it may be different
