DVLA and the data it holds - quick question

From reading these threads I now know that these unscrupulous private carpark companies get driver details from the DVLA which appears to be happy to chuck around personal data like sweeties.

Does anyone know what data the DVLA holds? Specifically, do they hold your phone number? It's so long since I applied for my licence/bought a new car I can't remember what details are asked for.

Don't think they hold your phone number, but you could always SAR them for £10.

Debt collectors do sometimes phone up as well as send letters about PPC scam tickets. I thought that there may well be a phone number on the info DVLA supply but am not sure. Maybe they just get the phone numbers from t'internet or phone book.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • I don't know about DVLA but when a person appeals a council PCN then the council records telephone numbers and email addresses. If the matter reaches bailiffs then these are passed onto the bailiffs and the bailiffs then use these to send emails and text messages to debtors prior to a home visit.
  • According to this, they don't.

    But can we believe them?

Thanks guys. Hopefully 'address' does not include phone number. I'm anticipating getting a letter from Britannia at some point after a guy took my registration for 'illegal parking' in the supermarket carpark. I got some great advice at the time from this forum and intend to happily ignore. I particularly dislike being phoned (by anyone really!) and hope that the campaign to intimidate me into paying won't include calls. I'm ex-directory, etc. but wondered if my number could be obtained from DVLA. Let's hope not....

  • I'm ex DVLA and when I worked there they did not hold telephone numbers on the actual vehicle records (cannot say for drivers side as didn't work there).

If you phoned them and needed a call back for whatever reason then the tel no would be taken and put on a different database to the one that public/police/councils etc have access to, and not looked at again.

If you had received a DVLA fine for non taxing etc and rung to query it, then staff were told to take customer's number and add to fine database in case the fine was not paid and then passed to debt collectors so they could ring. But again this database was separate to the main vehicle one.

I left 18 months ago so things may have changed
