    thanks guys :T

he does eat plenty of dairy during the day, and i try to give him a balanced diet.

not having a bedtime drink is a bit of an alien concept to our (huge!!) family though, which is why i am wittering i think

When my son wouldn't drink warmed cows milk, I offered it to him cold, and he guzzled it down. I can't remember how old he was though. But he certainly prefered it straight out of the fridge.

I would offer as many drinks as they want during the day (milk and water) but would not give a bedtime drink anymore ...I found once the bedtime drink went from milk to water then the need and desire for it stopped. Once the bedtime drink stopped it was easier for them to be dry at night and in turn they slept better. Sometimes we can get het up on what we think they need when in fact they do not need it all!

    i agree :T

sounds like he doesnt need a drink before bed anymore
you can make sure he gets plenty of dairy products or cereals / desserts etc containing milk of you are worried :)

Doesn't sound as if he's thirsty at all. It might be a good omen to stop the bedtime drink now so that it makes things easier for you in about another years time when you start the potty training. Or it might be a phase which will last a little while and he will be wanting his drink again in a few days.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Breastfeed was the 'night-time drink' my DDs had up to around 12 months, and when they weaned themselves off that, I started to give them a lillte cereal, or toast as supper - they still have this now at 7 & 10

I gave my son milo before he went to bed very like ovaltine.

The only thing is he liked it a bit too much and he's know 4 1/2 and still wants a cup before he goes to bed.

You could put a bit of cinammon or vanilla into warmed milk if you still want to offer a warm milk drink. My two had warm cows milk at night for years as it's good for them, was part of the whole bedtime routine and kept them going until morning which in this house can be 10.30am at weekend because we're all lazy bones ;)
Just run, run and keep on running!

other than water, giving drinks in bottles (particulary at bedtime) encourages this

  • No, milk wont cause teeth to rot like that!

That child in the photo, was probably drinking litres of coke a day! Also tons of sugary sweets, etc.....
