Renault Clio Second hand

Hi All,

Just wanting a bit of advise.

I have seen a Renualt clio t reg with 95000 miles on it.

It has no fuel cover and looks like it will need a oil and air filter change, it has got 8months MOT.

Rest of the car is in really good condition.

They are wanting £850.00 for this. does this sound like a good price?

And what other things should i be looking for when getting a car.

Thank you

  • Which engine is it?

The little petrol units are fairly sweet, they're quite basic little cars.

Not a lot else to say really.

  • It's a 1.6 engine.

    Hope this helps.

Automatic by any chance? Most of the 1.6s seem to be.

If it is an automatic, "barge pole" and "considerable distance" spring to mind.

  • no it's a manual.

How that dosen't spring to mind "barge pole"

Well, the 1.6 isn't much quicker than the 1.4 yet a fair wedge more to run, probably a bit of a desperate seller as not many people are looking for a small supermini with a considerably big engine for it's size, especially when the performance is hardly "hot hatch".

They're also more expensive to tax than the 1.2/1.4s.

If it was me, I'd be looking out for a 1.2 or a 1.4 (second choice), the 1.2 16v normally fulfills most peoples needs, and is a lovely little engine in my opinion, as economical as a diesel without the dreaded drone and smoke.

Just something to bear in mind.

    Regards,
    Andy

You can usually tell by looking at the nearside wheels for kerb damage.;)

To be honest, I would avoid any car that hasn't had regular oil changes.

Its a 11-12 year old car so expect it to be slightly scruffy, but its an unpopular combo (1.6 in the clio) and doesn't seem any kind of bargain at half that price.

Not worth the 1.6 as the tax is £205 a year.
