Holidays on JSA- Please Advise on Housing Benefit

Hello all,

I am on JSA ( Income Basesd).

My brother is getting married in America next month time and he has invited me over.

He has Promised to pay for the tickets and also promised to take care of accomodation and food for 10 days.

I have checked my dates of signon and unfortunately the dates he proposed i travel means that i will be missing 2 signon days.

I have decided to notify JSA about my holidays but my question is

When i signoff JSA for the duration, will i Lose my Housing Benefits?

Can anyone please advise how do i go about this?

Thanks

Your HB claim will continue, but you will need to notify the LA as they may suspend your claim if the JCP notify them of a change in circumstances.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Thanks Dmg, Will Notify the LA.

Any idea as to how long will it take to sign on once i get back?. Will it be a fresh claim once again or is it a faster process

HB is payable for temporary absences for up to 13 weeks irrespective of reasons and for up to 52 weeks in specified circumstances so long as:

    1) you have a positive and realistic intention to return to occupy the dwelling as your home ; and

    2) you don't sublet; and

    3) the period of absence is unlikely to exceed 13/52 weeks.

If at any time within the 13/52 weeks the length of absence becomes likely to exceed 13/52 weeks, HB/CTB will end immediately - it won't get paid to the end of the 13/52 weeks.
  • Thank you Benefit Bod, Very Clear

Would you also know about my other question regarding Signing off and Signing back on JSA, I mean will it be a fast process OR will it be a new claim and i start over again

Sorry Vouchers, don't know enough about that aspect of JSA and guessing isn't something I do (well, not normally :D).

Howabout contacting your Jobcentre? If you do, make a note of the info given to you, the name of the person giving the advice / info and the date and time of your enquiry - whether by telephone or in person.

Whatever confusion results at the Jobcentre, you should still be entitled to HB - presumably on "nil income" until JSA is sorted.
  • If you leave the Uk you have to sign off irrespective of whether it affects your signing days. You sign fortnightly to declare that you have been available, capable and actively seeking work. Complete your signing booklet, put your last claim date as the day before you leave, sign it and take it in to your local JCP office. On returning to the UK ring the claim line 0800 0556688 and tell the agent you talk to that you want to make a Raipd Reclaim.

you will still get housing benefit but you need to let them know? It shouldnt be too difficult to restart when you get home.

Rapid reclaim is what you ask for.
