Burning an MP3 Compilation - why so difficult??

I want to do something that I think should be very simple, but it's driving me crazy cos I can't seem to do it.

I have an MP3 player (as in MP3 format CD disc) in my car. I want to burn a compilation of my fave CD tracks/albums onto one MP3 CD because (I think) I should be able to get about 150 songs on one disc (ie gets loads of music into my car in one go)?

I can't seem to get my PC to do it...

Can anyone post an idiot's guide to copying and burning in MP3 format...

I have Nero and I-Tunes but I can't get either to work... I spent last weekend copying loads of tracks onto I-Tunes but when I came to burn it they were all in the wrong format I can't see how you can change them and the day was wasted...

Before I chuck my PC out the window, can anyone help me please??

Thanks in advance.

  • You should be able to do this by just burning a data disk in Nero. I've not got a cd-player in the car though so this is just a guess. I have however managed to burn mp3's to a cd so that I can take them to work to listen to.

If that doesn't work, check your iTunes burning preferences to make sure you've got mp3 selected (Edit -> Preferences, Advanced tab then select mp3 as your burning option)

    Hope that helps

I couldn't see how to burn a data disc in Nero as a compilation - do you have to download your tracks onto your PC first?

Sorry if I sound really dim, but I don't get this at all!

I have done this - and that's where I hit the problem! It said they weren't saved in the right format to burn as MP3....

Right, I used Nero, burnt my compliation as a data disc, and the folders and everything appear to be there and it said burn was completed successfully....

    but....

when I put the CD in a player it just says there's no music there!

    What have I done wrong??

using nero you can choose burn mp3 disc. Use that or you could just use the data disc option making sure all your music is in the mp3 format

Burn it as a data disk, in ISO format, be sure not to use folders, just mp3 tunes as 1 batch, make sure that you disable the multisession in NERO, (should prompt, when you click burn). your disk should play fine in your stereo, providing it plays mp3 tunes. ;)

Sorry if this sounds a bit dim but 2 things to check:

1 - Is your car cd player capable of playing mp3 cd's?
2 - Are your songs (which you are writing to the disc) stored on the computer as mp3's, or whatever format your cd-player uses?

    Cheers
