iTunes 7 - Poor Quality when adding MP3 files

Upgraded last week and have been impressed with the new album art and gapless features. However have just tried to add a few mp3 files that I have downloaded from the net and they play back through itunes with horrible crackle in the background. They play in realplayer, etc. fine. Just also imported a cd as usual into itunes and thats fine. Anyone have any ideas what to do?

iTunes is a marketing tool! Why not try using an alternative program to put your MP3's on, like Yamipod.

  • iTunes 7 upgrade has been a disaster! Don't touch it with a bargepole.

Check out all the problems on the iLounge Forums or on the Apple Discussions Forum.

Actually, I've not had much issue with iTunes v7 other than the poor quality, stuttering, crackling issue occasionally. Until a fix is released, you can stop this happening by going into the task manager (CTRL, ALT + DEL) and setting the priority of iTunes to 'High'.

It works for me, hope it does for you too.

Try going to the Audio tab in QuickTime Preferences and setting the default Sound Out size to be 16bit.
