Pregnant. Can anyone recommend travel insurance for Egypt?

We will be travelling to Egypt in January when I will be 24 weeks pregnant. I'm not sure who to choose insurance wise. Just in case, god forbid the baby decides to turn up early or we have to cancel before we go due to problems.
We have been to Luxor a good few times, so know what to expect when we get there. I'm thinking lounging in the pool in awarm climate will do us all the world of good

Pregnancy isn't a big issue with insurance until after around 27 weeks I've just booked travel insurance with holiday extras. I'm 24 weeks pregnant but going to Majorca. On reading the small print it list what is covered with regards to pregnancy such as emergencies or unforseen circumstances happening. I have also got the ehic card. Just to be on the safe side too I have got a letter from my midwife to confirm how many weeks I am and that I am fit to fly etc just in case the airline questions how far along you are. Not sure if any of that helps at all.Make £11,000 in 2011 challenge - £120/£11,0000

Hi,
Your best bet is to actually get the baby insured separately. If (and I hope not) the baby should arrive early it will not be covered under your travel insurance as it is now a person in itself and you would incur hospital bills etc.
There are several specialist companies who will insure you - just google :0)My post count doesn't reflect the amount of time spent on here :0) I just keep forgetting my login details - now saved.0 -
No she would incur the hospital bills not the baby. Plus how do you insure an unborn child you have no name date of birth etc to put on an insurance form. That sounds ridiculous to meMake £11,000 in 2011 challenge - £120/£11,0000

You dont need special insurance when pregnant provided you have had a healthy pregnancy to date. I would advise letting the insurers know however out of courtesy more than anything else. Thats what I did.COMP WINS FOR HUBBY & I SINCE SEPTEMBER:2 £50 DOMINOS VOUCHERS, 13 PAIRS OF FOOTBALL TICKETS, MICROSOFT HOME EDTN, 2 PAIRS OF ALTON TOWERS TICKETS, 1 CASE OF PERCY PIGS, 1 PAIR OF LEATHER LADIES GLOVES, 4 COLLECTION 2000 PRODUCTS, PLAYSTATION 3 WITH FIFA 12, 5* HOTEL STAY IN LONDON, SEASON 6 OF SUPERNATURAL DVD, PERFECT PIZZA VOUCHER0

you need to be very careful regarding travel insurance and pregnancy. for a start off, most insurance companies cover infants free of charge under their parents policy.
secondly, whilst a lot of insurers will cover complications with a pregnancy, early birth is not (by a lot of companies) classed as a complication. the birth of a baby is something that is 99.9999% gauranteed to happen, and insurance is there to cover unexpected events, not events that are known to happen. i would suggest that any policy you take out is checked by contacting the insurance company and asking each one to confirm exactly what they will and will not cover in this situation, and don't just go for the cheapest option that comes up on a price comparison website. it may be worth paying a few extra quid if it ensures you have the relevant cover.
on a side note, i would also choose the destination & choice of accommodation carefully too if travelling when pregnant. would you really want to go somewhere where the standards may not be as high as other places (not just in the hotel, but outside the hotel, local towns, transport systems etc). consider local hygene standards. it may also depend on your destination as to if the insurance will cover too, so make sure they are aware. one other final thing to think about is the availability of flights, JUST IN CASE. somewhere with either a daily or 4/5 times a week service will be much easier to get home than a destination where they may obly fly once a week.
Good luck in your search, i hope you get sorted with adequate travel insurance, have a great holiday, and congratulations on your pregnancy.
