New Bathroom

Approxiamtely how much would I expect to pay for someone to refit my bathroom, I am supplying all materials
The work involved would be, replace old suite and box in pipes, remove approx 12 sq meters of old tiles and make walls good as needed and replace with new tiles
I have had a quote of £850 but I was told it was perfectly ok to tile over the old ones and too be honest I have a funny feeling about this person he said he can start work immediately, I have been told a plumber with no work is not a good sign. We are also have a new gas central heating system installed and I was wondering wether this should be done before a bathroom refit

The most important question here is where are you?
A job that costs £1500 in London can cost £500 elsewhere.
Also the standard of the fit can't be judged on here. I could walk into the same bathroom and provide a quote to supply and fit from anything from £4000 to £40,000 depending what they want doing so it's very subjective.
The only true answer you will get is by asking for a couple of further quotes, the guy then stands in your bathroom assess what's required and provides an estimate for the work. How can anyone possibly give any form of calculated guess on a forum?
Excuse the minor rant, but I see this same question appear every other day on this forum and it usually leads to a series of nonsence answers like "I've had my enitre bathroom installed for £150".
You're uncomfortable with the quote and the guy, go get some more and if possible get a referal from someone who's had some work done that you can go and see.
Get the heating done before the bathroom.0 -
I have gone with my gut feeling and decided that I will go on recommendations, I have found an excellent tiler who is fully booked to the end of November but we will wait for him, he has quoted £972 to remove the existing walltiles, make the walls good and replace with 17 sq meters of tiles and to fit 2sq metres of flooring
He will be working in conjuction with the plumber who is charging £450 to replace our old suite and box in the pipes, the quote is a few hundred pounds more but I feel happier that this job will now be done professionally0
