  • The hard to understand bits for me are that ...

    a) he applied last year for the first time, there were no hold ups and nothing's changed in our circumstances since then

    b) we have a really straightforward family/financial set up, no complications like self employement or divorced parents

    c) we applied well before the deadline over 4 months ago now and it was only 2 weeks ago I was informed there was a problem and only because I rang them.

  • 0870 buster, means you get call at landline rate. its on another of mse pages,
basically instead of calling the 08 number call,

    0141 243 3600

Same system, but its the direct landline number.
  • Ahhh right, thanks for the tip Carnaby_lamb!

  • I was told he'll only get the non assessed loan to start with but that's only going to cover his rent, nothing else, he can't afford to live unless they get a move on and do the means tested bit as well. He's working away from home all summer to pay his rent and never has a signal on his phone so it's really hard to get hold of him and get him to keep ringing them.

    regards CWR

That was all I, and many others, started with last year because there was such a back log. I fell lucky that I only got a one week delay on the original payment date, some friends didn't get their loan until after Christmas, and others only got a bit and the rest with the January payment.

My poor sister keeps being told to call back in 2 weeks and the catalogue of incompetencies really beggars belief.

Her summer has been ruined with the stress over it all and I only hope for her sake that this doesn't happen every year!

I guess it depends - applied just after applications opened on the 31st January, first maintenance loan installment hit my account yesterday...

Unfortunately it probably will, I'm about to start my second year and it's been just as bad as last year
