Fridge freezers - which one and where from

Well my antique fridge freezer finally gave up yesterday - its 3rd hand and over 20 years old - it's done me proud!!
After a mad dash to take anything I could save around to the in laws to 'rent some space' in theirs I took a trip to the usual suspects - Iceland, Comet, Currys, Argos and left in confusion after no help at all from any assistants!
I have never had to buy one before so can anyone give any advice on what to look for - make/models that are reliable etc? Where to go to get a good deal? Is it worthwhile getting it online from somewhere as opposed to a store?
Thanks.

Hi
According to 'Which' magazine, you can't go wrong with a Bosch, Siemans or a Zanussi.
And don't be talked into taking out an extended warrentie!!

Go to Comet, find the one you want then put that model into price runner above.

I just bought one from Dixons..although they charge you an extortionate £30 delivery, and £17.00 to scrap the old one! (I think the scrap charge is reasonable assuming you don't have a large car/van to do it yourself, but £30del...?)
You can often find codes on the discount codes forum..Saying that, John Lewis are excellent..got my washer from them..they often give you 2 year guarantees (free) rather than the standard manufacturer's 1 year gtte. JL also gave free delivery. There is a code for £15 off a spend of over £75 or £90 on the dicount code forum too..
I didn't get mine from JL as they were a bit too pricey.
In terms of names..Frigidaire are a well established name whom I like, and my other fave are Zanussi. I would avoid like the plague ones like Beko and Daewoo..Genreally speaking (as a loose guideline), if you aint heard of them, or they have just started making FF's, then avoid them.
In reference to what kind to buy- it's really up to you. I know i wanted Frost Free, but they are often £100 dearer than the standard model...make sure the one you buy has an 'A' rating for enegrgy efficiency (these can save you around £20 per year on elec costs

Def frost free!!!
It cost extra but its worth spending the extra money!
I have a Samsung fridge freezer and can highly recommend it,0 -
We got ours from co-op electrical online....http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/
As well as having the cheapest frost-free for both fridge and freezer (make sure you thoroughly check out whether it applies to both by checking the manufacturer's site for the model), it had a good sized freezer as well - so many models seem to have small freezers.
Importantly, you get to to choose your delivery date BEFORE you finally order. They also have products can be delivered to your door in just 2 days from placing your order. And the co-op are part of the Quidco deal - so you can get some money back.
Final note - try and look for a fridge/freezer that has an A, or A+ or even A++ rating - these are the best standards for efficiency, and therefore for the environment.
Hope that helps.0 -
After a recommendation on this forum, we got ours from the co-op electrical website link that Griff posts (above). It is great, and they delivered on the day they said (if not quite the time, it was early!). Well impressed with Co-Op electricals¬0
