Moving a cherry tree

I planted a cherry tree 2 years ago but it is growing too big for our garden and is using up much of the space we could use for growing veggies. My sister in law has a big garden that the tree would fit in so I'm happily donating it to her.
My query is how & when best to move it to minimise damage. I'd like to grow some green manure where I'm taking it from to improve the soil so I don't know when I should be doing that either or whether the seasons woudl be against me! (can you tell I'm new to this gardening lark!)
Thanks!

Move in early or late Autumn, when leaves have fallen off and before SIL soil has gone cold with Winter
Try and leave as much soil as possible on the roots, this may make it heavy of course
The tree will need a bit of cosseting next year, watering will be especially importantWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
Thanks - glad I'll manage to get it done this year and then have the bed free for veggies next spring.
I'm in Scotland so watering is never really a big issue - nature takes care of that most of the time!0
