Never had any trouble with this until now, it normally just opens up and new mail is received. Now I'm being asked for a password (That I don't know !) and get the following error message :
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.wanadoo.co.uk', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Username or password is incorrect', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
Not sure why all of a sudden I'm being asked for a password, does seem strange.
Don't really want to try orange tech support, especially at 50p per minute

have you tried removing your account and re-adding it?
mine has done this in the past but has always fixed itsself, maybe the email server is down?0 -
not to sure whats happened but the IP address 127.0.0.1 for the wanadoo pop server is incorrect this IP address is the Universal address for a loopback it will test your ethernet card,
i would suggest that you do as FLANG says and reinstall your account but if you dont know the password then you may have trouble0 -
I'm a tech dunce, can I do this within outlook express.
Thanks0 -
while in Outlook Express, click Tools, accounts and identify your mail account (usually marked as default). Highlight it, click properties and check connections. POP server should read pop.wanadoo.co.uk and SMTP should read SMPT.wanadoo.co.uk . Also check that server requires authemtication is ticked. Apply, exit and retry
ensure your username and password are set correctly0 -
Try this password recovery tool before you delete or mess with your account. It might help you remember.
The local loopback may be due to some proxy software (spam filter or virus detection?) you have running.
The problem you describe also sometimes occurs if the remote mail server is down. From the Orange web site - Error code 0x800CCC90 POP3_RESPONSE_ERROR, so it's likely this is what's going on. I can't find a service status page on the Orange web site though.0 -

127.0.0.1 is the loopback (not technically the correct address but now used universally at the cost of 0.4% ish of all public IPv4 addresses), but has nothing to do with your network card, more to do with your requirements of the installed IP stack. Having a loopback device gives network dependent programs something to hook onto in case the machine doesn't have a network card.
Generally you see the ip 127.0.0.1 used in email clients' pop3 setup when they are connecting to the pop3 email server through a 3rd party application such as anti-virus software and and spam checkers.
If you have anti-virus and/or spam checking software that integrates with your pop3 email then check these first.
It maybe that they are not responding and your email client is fine.NURSE: "Shouldn't it be sterilized, doctor?"

I've just added some anti spam software as a result of a deluge of spam was coming into my account everyday. I'll remove it and see what happens.
Still , I've never been asked for a password before so seems strange why al of a sudden it is happening.
Thanks again.0 -
A password would have been entered as part of signing up to Wanadoo. Google password reveal for tools which can show the OE password disguised as blobs in Tools - Accounts - Properties - Server.0

Mcafee spamkiller removed and everything now working.
