  • In this case the agent was told we were not interested and we only dealt with our broker, he then phoned back later in the day and told another non blood related family member falsely claiming he had authority from the new business owner and his broker to discuss a contract leading her to believe she was authorised, npower have accepted an edited recording minus the false claims and used this to sign up a pensioner to a 36 month contract when he had already agreed to go with another supplier through his broker. This is an absolute disgrace and an abuse of the consumers rights, even the broker is disillusioned and disgusted that the customer who had no idea this was happening has no protection whatsover from this telephone slamming, the family is distressed with the situation and the daughter in law is suicidal at the lies used against her by commercial power ltd with the edited down version of the calls. We are exporing every avenue to get a full investigation into these immoral practices used by energy companies and a complete disregard for the consumer. The victim in this case is a 72 year old with heart disease and diabetes who has without his authority or knowledge been signed up to a contract that he has no escape from according to the customer relations department at npower, where are his rights ?
emails have been sent to all the relevant departments including ofgem and energy watch, hopefully someone somewhere will take an interest. We will not allow the matter to go away without recourse.

can anyone assist in bringing criminal charges against npower for using an edited version of a telephone slamming call to sign up a new customer without their knowledge ?

If you suspect a crime has been committed, you should report this matter to the police and ask for a crime number.

If you don't get a crime number, then chances are no crime has been committed.

If you do obtain a crime number, you'll stand more chance of criminal cahrges being brought ... but that will untimately depend on the investigations of the police and, if any evidence is found and the case fowarded, the final decision of the CPS.

Why would a 72 year old with a dodgy heart and diabetes want to open a city centre pub?

Running a pub is not the most relaxing of occupations never mind being in a city centre!

He is not, his son is and that is who the eon contract was going in but commercial power somehow collated enough information then lied to the daughter in law who has a different pub.
The point is an energy agent has obtained a commission from npower and signed up someone to a 3 year agreement with out his permission or knowledge by way of fraudelent claims, how can an innocent person have no protection as a consumer. the practice of verbal confirmation from third parties being acceptable by energy suppliers as legally binding is wide open to abuse from telephone slammers, it is an absolute disgrace that this practice is allowed to happen
  • Lets get it straight I abhor the energy comapnies and the way that they have ruined the honurable and ancient profession of selling but "Cardew" lets not get carried away.
You are implying that all door step selling should be banned. That is over controlling narrow minded ignorance. By all means ban certain products from being sold on the door i.e. products where the only benefit to the customer is "cheapness" because if that is the case then the pressure to exaggerate and even lie both by sales person and customer are too large.
Some businesses have a definite trading advantage other than price and the banning of doorstep selling would clearly impact on those businesses detrimentally and that is unfair.
I know your reply will be that those businesses should use conventional advertising; and maybe some can;but unless you have experience of a particular business you are not in a position to make the call on expenses incurred by that business.
For instance some businesses, including my own, need to be controlled geographically and time wise. The reason for this will strike a chord, i hope, with most on this site and that is too reduce and control cost. Reduced and controlled cost means ultimately "lower prices".
Lets get away from the hysteria and childishness of tarring all businesses with the same brush "NOT EVERYONE WHO KNOCKS ON YOUR DOOR IS A CORRUPT, EVIL MANIPULATOR SOME OF US HAVE RESPECT, HAVE A GREAT SERVICE TO PROMOTE AND ARE GETING A BIT TIRED OF THIS CHILDISH WHINING"
Thats all for now folks I have work to do including recruiting more door to door canvassers to bring our message to you all.

P.S. To Martin. Next time you go on the Radio to spout your anti door step message I would love to be invited on too. People deserve to have both sides of the story not just the negative.

I was with scottish gas paying £85 a month when a scottish power rep. came to the door promised me I could get dual power for £60.Stupidly I jumped at the chance to save £25 and not even 3 months later I received a letter telling me it was going up to £97
I am a pensioner with a 20 year old son at college so this is unbelievable and I do think scottish power should be charged

    I suspect this is a wind-up?
  • If not it definately needs to be filed in the so bad its good category. BTW assuming it is serious I cannot think of a single worthwhile product which is sold door to door. Maybe Avon and the like? Put they don't exactly use pressure sales, they just drop the catalogue off and pop back for it later.

Anyone else got one that's worthwhile?

  • npower press office have responded informing us that they will investigate the matter.
The problem in this case is not doorstop selling but the misuse and abuse of the verbal acceptance from a third party to sign anyone up to a contract without their knowledge or authority.
This practice has to be outlawed as the morrally corrupt will abuse this loophole and many innocents have been tied to unwanted contracts they simply cannot escape from

This seems like nonsense to me. An uninvolved third party surely cannot enter into a contract for you!

Personally I don't buy from people who just turn up door knocking BUT I strill think a door step canvasser is an improvement on a so called "deemed contract"
