Bit of a weird letter

I couldn't find an appropriate section of the forum for this, so it's going here.
I moved here 6 months ago, today I got a letter from a debt enforcement agency saying they're running a "utility investigation" on my address and that I need to supply them with me name, date of occupancy and landlord's contact details. I know I'm not in debt because I've paid all my bills
So it must be the previous occupier.
Just wondered if this is normal - should I just send off this info when I have no idea who the company is, or could it be some kind of obscure scam? (I have no idea how, just paranoid!)

First of all, are you mad?
Never ever give out any information to someone who doesn't even know the name of the occupier to the property.
I'd suggest you call up all of your utility companies and check if you have any form of debt.
and secondly inform you landlord.Working within the gas and electric industry since 2008'0 -
Probably a debt collection agency doing a bit of investigation for once rather than just taking the heavy approach. The last tenants probably left a large bill and they are hoping that either you or your landlord might have a forwarding address. All it is is a fishing expedition and they have no legal rights to any of the information without a court order.0
