I've got a netgear router which works fine.
My problem is my husband has just bought a new laptop and we can't remember the security key.
Is there anyway to retrieve it.
I got onto the netgear page but it won't accept my password.
My own laptop works fine with it but he can't get on the internet and we have no idea what to do.
If all else fails would we be able to buy another router and use two in the same house without any trouble .
If so how far apart would we have to have them.
Sorry to seem stupid but I have no idea about such things.

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to reset your router (there should be a little hole on the back to put a pen/paperclip in).
Once reset, plug computer into port on back of router.
Open internet explorer and type in the address bar http://routerlogin.net
Use the router's interface page to set a password to log into your router (this is different to the password required to connect to the network)
Set the encryption (best select WPA/WPA2 if possible) using a passphrase. Write the passphrase down on a slip of paper and put it under your router.
Connect the laptops wirelessly using the new encryption passphrase.0 -
Might be default username and password:
Try

resetting the router with a pin will lose all your settings, to be avoided if you don't know your isp password, and aren't familiar with resetting your wireless password. try the default passwords first.!!

netgear defaults are admin and password, if I remember correctly...try that......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Is it the router password you need or the wireless security key?
If you plug your laptop/pc into the router with a cable you can access the admin pages (assuming you know the router password) and then reset your wireless passwords.
Most routers can be found by putting http://192.168.1.1 into your internet browser.
If you don't know the password you can reset it, but then you may have to re-enter all your settings including passwords for your broadband if it's an ADSL router.0 -
If you just need the Wifi password, you can extract it from your P/C using a free utility ...
