  • Each state in the USA sets its own version of VAT. The US price you're quoting doesn't include any sales tax.

Also, consider this - The Wii can be advertised, packaged, distributed, configured and retailed for the whole of North America. Now configure the Wii for the UK, with English instructions & packaging, with a 3 pin plug, a transformer for 240 volts, test it to EU standards, with a PAL output, advertise it in UK magazines & TV, distribute it using UK companies to UK Retailers.

    Now do it for France.

    Now do it for Spain.

    Now do it for Germany.

    Now do it for Italy.

    Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, etc etc...

Its hardly surprising that its more expensive and takes longer. Selling to Europe is a pain in the bum, its a wonder that they bother doing it at all.
  • When the newsreader says, "the pound is up against the dollar" at the end of the news I bet most people let it go in one ear and out the other.

But what if the newsreader says that nearly every day for months on end..? Do you expect USA prices to always be identical to UK prices? They're not always the same because exchange rates are always changing.

II replied with how much do you want them to charge on the console, low enough so they make no profit. .

    When did you ask this?

Since viewtiful said the console is £125 in US, slap VAT on that and add on the game value, pretty close to £180.

Price has now come out in USA as £130 with Wii sports game, £50 of a difference
