Epson Stylus S20 - "Service Required" Message/Replacement

Hi,
As the title says, our Epson S20 is coming up with "Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. See your printer documentation." and refuses to print.
Unsurprisingly, the printer documentation doesn't appear to cover this, so I was wondering if anyone else has come up against this problem and has found a workround.
Alternatively, could someone recommend a cheap replacement printer that uses the same cartridges, as I have compatible, refillable cartridges that I would prefer to keep using.

Was going to say "Use the SSC utility" but just looked on this forum and the SSC does not work with the S20, but the forum entry suggests other options.0
