Cat keeps sneezing.....time for the vet?

Hi All

My cat is a house cat....he's approximately 5 years old
On Monday he started with a bit of a sneezing fit...but we passed it off as just one of those things.
However, the past couple of days he's been sneezing more and his right eye looks like he's crying :(
He's still eating (demanding food as usual lol) and is still playful and wants cuddles as normal...

I don't want to drag him to the vets (and incur skin loss lol) if it's something minor.....any clues?

Thanks
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)

  • My cat had a regular cold a few months ago. Symptoms were the same as you were describing. Is your cat vaccinated up to date? x
  • Well...when I took him to the vets to have the next lot of vaccines when i got him...the vet said because he is a house cat and never goes out....there wasnt any point in giving him the vaccines

thats unusual for a vet to say that - he is doing himself out of money!

I have 1 house cat but he still gets his jabs as you never know if he will escape or if you might bring in germs. I would just give your vet a call and ask his advice just in case.

he has sneezing fits every now and then - this is when i know i need to do the dusting lol
  • Your cat most probably has a cold....cats do get colds especially if they are indoor cats, very young or very old.

Having vaccinations wont affect your cat getting a cold.

If the eye gets very sticky with green gunge then go to the vet for some eye drops to clear it up, other than that your cat should feel better in a few days time.

I really don't think we should be giving medical diagnosis on here

OP, if he's still sneezing please take him to the vet :)

Wow, you have such a talent! Maybe the OP doesn't need to see the vet after all now you've diagnosed what is wrong with her cat!

  • For goodness sake....anyone else want to join the bandwagon? Its so predictable! One person comes along with a comment and out of the woodwork the usual mob come along with their snidey sarcastic comments.....such nastiness on here at times!

The OP asked for some clues as to what might be happening...........I stated (as do 100's of people on this site when it comes to their children!) that it sounds like it PROBABLY has a cold and that if it gets worse, go to a vet.

My vet told me their was no point with indoors cats in having vaccines either.

May be an infection or he may have allergies. Always worth getting checked over; just incase.
  • they probably don't have cats themselves...or bored so fancied a snipe!!!

I have 2 cats and used to rush them to the vets at every sneeze...the only thing wrong was the prices lol!!!

Earnie (my baby:A) back leg kept going (he's only 2) but is very overweight, he was the runt of the litter and makes up for it now! Got to the vets, she said she could ''smell'' diabities on him, so after a shave, a blood test, a toilet accident (the cat btw :D), £150.00 and a even more distressed cat I was told he was clear and his leg was probably a fight with his brother. Not he's fine and on a diet (no chocolate for him much to his disgust!)

If you really are worried, then take him, but do agree to give it a couple of days unless he does change, i.e not eating, refusing fusses etc. Get weel soon xxx

Some of us do have cats actually and some of us are also vets.
