what should I put on my IS form?

I've printed the IS form out on the comp and there is a page asking who I live with and how much they earn. My parents fon't really want to give the information out as it's really non of the benefits people (want for a better word) business. It does say I don't have to put it and it's optional. Would it make a difference to the amount of money I would recieve?

Also I would like to fill the form in and email it online, can I do that?

Also, I have ticked on the form that I want to opt out of the child maintenance option because babys dad is now a full time student and won't be able to afford much more than around a tenner, it was my suggestion. Is that the best thing to do or should I let them pursue it? I'm on good terms with him so it's no problem at the moment.

With regards "who do you live with", I think this is referring to "who is in your household", ie you and your child(ren), the ones that you are making a claim for.

I haven't heard of an online email facility, I think the best way to do it is deliver it personally to your Jobcentre and get a receipt or post it recorded delivery.

Unfortunately if you are making a claim for IS, the CSA will be contacted automatically, so it will be out of your hands. They will contact the father in any case.

    Edit-
Thinking about this, I'm not sure about the first question if you are sharing meals etc. with your parents. I would give them a ring about that.

Im not sure whether its simliar to Incapacity Benefit but when I was claiming for that and also when I claimed for the low income for help with NHS costs I didnt put down my parents income. I live with them and they make the meals and take care of the bills etc.

I second what Fran has already said though you wont have any choice with the maintenance thing because you are claiming the CSA will automatically get involved - if he is low income then he may not have to pay and what he does probably wont come to you but go towards paying your bneefits

I would take the form into the Jobcentre personally and get a receipt for it or send it recorded delivery - I wouldnt trust 100% the email way because I would want hard proof it had gone and also that it had got there

If you are living with your parents their income etc.... does not come into it if you are claiming IS.

With regards to the maintenance thing, have you read the leaflet about it that should have come with your main form? If you haven't read it, read it, if you haven't got one, ask for one or look it up on the website.

If you tick to opt out, they want to know why. They will only accept reasons like if he would hurt, harm or abuse you and even then they will look into those claims.

If there is no good reason for you opting out, they can stop your money or pay you less than you are entitled to - not worth it is it?

I had this with the kids Dad when I had to claim, he said I had grassed him up and was screaming blue murder. I just said to him that if I didn't give his details in, I wouldn't get any money and his children wouldn't gt fed. That soon shut him up.

you don't need to opt out of the csa, if he is a student, then he won't have to pay anything anyway, unless he is earning on top of his student loan? Even then, it won't be much if he is studying, he is hardly likely to be earning a fortune
  • Thanks for the replys. I have just looked and it said if he is earning 100 a week or less or a full time student then he will pay nothing or a minimum of a fiver!

I'm annoyed at the moment so I think this is ludicrous, yeah, i'll get benefits but he's not fixed a time when he'll see her and said he can't because he might have other things on!!!!!

How am I meant to make sure he sees her other than when he feels like it?

You can apply for proper contact but that will never guarantee that he keeps to the arrangements - basically there is nothing really that you can do, only hope he wants to be a proper father.

    good luck

Sounds like he has his priorities all sorted out!
You need to tell him he has to make a proper arrangement to see her as she needs stability and routine, he cant just turn up willie nillie when he feels like it.
I dont know if its the same for all areas, but when i put in a claim it was all done over the phone, no flaffing about with loads of forms as someone went through them over the phone, sent a printout then i signed it and sent it back.

Is it you living with your parents or your parents living with you?

If it's the first you don't have to add them on, but there is a question which says are you living with any members of your family as a member of their household, you tick there and just write their name(s)

If it's your house and they are staying with you then you would have to add them on
